SSS
SSS also known as the Course Rating Is a single number indicating the difficulty of golf course to an expert golfer, a "par golfer". The figure is used when calculating handicaps. The Course Rating is a number, close to par for the course, and is expressed with a single decimal digit. For example: If par for a course is 72, it's Course Rating might be 71.4.
Rating values go up with difficulty. Actually, for any given golf course, you can expect to see three (or even more) values for the Course Rating. Each value corresponds to a different tee.
For example: On this same course, the Course Rating for golfers who play from the men's blue tees might be 72.8. From the men's white tees, the Course Rating might be 71.0. The ladies' red tees may be rated at 73.3. These figures are almost always printed on the score card
SSS is the score, that a scratch player (someone playing off a 0 handicap) is expected to return in ideal conditions, over a measured course. The allocation of SSS is the responsibility of the Union, for example in England the EGU determines the SSS for a course
CSS
Is the score that a scratch player is expected to return taking into account the specific conditions of the day (for example particular weather conditions), over a measured course. CONGU have detailed formulas used to calculate the CSS.
PT
stands for stableford points
SI
SI is the Stroke Index (SI).
The 18 holes on a course are ranked according to how hard they are using this stroke index.
The hardest hole on a course will be stroke index one, the easiest, stroke index 18.
The stroke index works in parallel to the handicap.
So if you have a handicap of 14, you should subtract one shot from your gross score at the holes which have been designated as stroke index one to 14.
If you have a handicap of more than 18, there will be some holes at which you can take more than one shot.
For instance with a handicap of 24, you should take two shots at holes with stroke index one to six (18 + 6 = 24).
GIR
GIR stands for 'Green In Regulation' by this we mean did your ball finish on the putting green in the correct number of shots for ths hole. By correct I mean ..
1 shot for a par 3
2 shots (or less)for a par 4
3 shots (or less) for a par 5
