To run Wireless18, you need to have a properly configured internet access GPRS account, please note that most operators provide GPRS settings suitable for WAP browsing by default, which is not compatible with Wireless18 in most cases. GPRS Internet connection usually requires different settings and possibly an operator activation to work. GPRS settings are often named with "internet" or "web" words in it ; in most cases anything with "wap" in it limits the connection to WAP only.
Please see this page for further details … http://www.quickim.com/support/gprs-settings.html
1. Why will my Nokia Phone not connect to the wireless18 server. When I try to download a course I just get a spinning wheel ?
With most Nokia phones Wireless18 connects to the Internet 'straight out of the box' but sometimes it does needs a little extra
help. I would expect your operator has not setup your phone's "preferred access point". This settings is used by Java applications (such
as Wireless18) to use the phones GPRS settings.
I believe you can set this yourself by…
- 1 - Menu
- 2 - Settings
- 3 - Configuration
- 4 - Preferred access point
- 5 - Select your access point (this will be named something like INTERNET, WEB or GPRS)
2. BlackBerry WAP Details for your network
On first use of the software, Personal Edition users will be asked to configure their WAP connection with 3 settings - WAP GPRS APN, WAP Gateway IP & WAP Gateway Port. These settings depend upon your mobile operator. If you do not know these please do not hesitate to contact us. Here are

3. Blackberry - 'Media Access' Message
If you are getting the error message that mentions “Media Access” permission then…
This error means your Blackberry is denying our application to access the internet. Possibly at some stage when you first went to use
it, it asked to 'allow' access. You might have said no, thus this issue…
You can go into tools or Options on your device and go to the Security options and adjust the permissions set for the Wireless18
application and that should allow it to work
If this does not work you just let us know and we can help you further work around this issue.
4. Can't connect - using SAMSUNG D500
First go to http://www.wireless18.com/wap on your phones wap browser and download the phone. After that follow these instructions.
1/. menu>applications>java world>settings then enter your network settings:
These depend on your network provider for example T-Mobiles's are
apn: wap.voicestream.com
login id: blank
password: blank
proxy: enable
IP address: 216.155.165.50
port: 8080
2/. Then go to Wireless18 highlight it (don't start it) and hit options key>application settings>and select yes for questions 1,2 and3.
All should work after this.
5. Network Problems with Motorola Phones
All Java applications on Motorola's phones require a special "Java Session" WebSession for network connectivity. This WebSession is separate from any WAP or GPRS/Internet WebSessions you may already have configured.
To create this new Web Session for used by Java applications
1/. Select Menu -> Web Access -> Web Sessions -> [New Entry]
2/. Name the new entry "Java Session", set all Service Types to "HTTP", and enter the relevant GPRS APN information for your network operator (What is are these ?? if you let me know your operator I will try and find them for you)
If you encounter the message "Browser setup is incomplete" when you are configuring your Java Session, you can safely ignore it. The most important fields to change are Service Types, GPRS APN, User Name, and Password (last three are located at the very bottom of the WebSession setup page).
If this does not work, checked if you have GPRS enabled for you mobile account. Or in the Java Session entry try leaving the APN, username and password fields blank.
If this does not work try changing the APN field to ..
internet.vodafone.net
6. Now that I've found the IP address and gateway, I'm getting a new error, it says:
Golf Alert
Network problem, please retry. If this
continues please mail
support@wireless18.com :info:Code O
null
Just to check what network are you on (rogers, etc) ? and so what APN, Port and IP values are you using ?. Please note that these network fields are case-sensitive
7. Nextel blackberry7510 error - unable to to connect to http through wap
8. What is the wap for a bb7520 on the Nextel network
If you using a BB7520 on the Nextel network then you do not need to worry about WAP settings as on Nextel the application connects directly using the BES version.
Please download and try the BES version.
9. Network Problem/Solutions for Sony Ericsson Users. A common problem is that by default these phone cannot connect to the internet from a Java application. So the wireless18 application will not login, get course info, etc.
Change the default WAP profile to the general internet connection profile.
Many operators choose to have multiple APN's for WAP, MMS and general Internet connections (Vodafone in Sweden for example). When using the browser, the profile should be WAP. When Java apps access the internet, the profile should be Internet.
This means that the user has to manually change the default connection profile when switching between wap browsing, and using Java apps.
To change the profile, go to menu -> Connectivity -> WAP options -> WAP profiles -> (Internet profile name)
Step by Step instructions:
For any Java application to access the internet from your phone you must have GPRS enabled.
1/. So your first step is to check this is the case. The easiest way to do this is to contact your Service Provider. A lot of providers will send a sms to your phone which sets this up for you.
You have GPRS enabled on the phone but W18 still doesn't connect ?
2/. When GPRS was setup on your phone an APN (access point) will have been entered onto your phone with the GPRS connection details. Each APN on the SE phones have an unique identifier known as a CID. The CID can be found by selecting Connectivity -> Data comm -> Data accounts -> <APN Name> . W18 works best if we connect through CID=1, so if the current APN associated with CID=1 is not a GPRS/Internet APN, simply create a new APN, copy the APN settings from the APN associated with CID=1 and then copy your GPRS/Internet settings to the APN associated with CID=1.
Still doesn't work ?
3/. Make sure that you default connection is the GPRS one and not a WAP connection. Go to Connectivity -> WAP options -> WAP profiles -> (Your GPRS profile name) and set this as default.
10. Blackberry - COMCEL (columbia)
Check first if you have the menu on your Blackberry where you can directly enter TCP details for applications such as Wireless18 to use.
If you have you will find it by starting from the main menu of your
Blackberry and selecting something like…
Options » Advanced Options » TCP and press enter
If so please input here the following details…
APN : internet.comcel.com.co
Username: COMCELWEB
Password: COMCELWEB
With these values entered you should then be able to download and
install the Blackberry BES version of Wireless18 and it will connect
without any problems
11. Network error while running Wireless18 in Blackberry Pearl 8100 running on Vodafone in the UK
1. Update Blackberry OS to version 4 (it's not possible to select the radio buttons in the app with version 3.x)
2. Change the TCP settings to: APN: Internet User:web Password:web
3. Download and run the BES version of wireless18
12. I can install the app on my Motorola A780. However, I cant mark the score card? The keypad is disabled when the flip is up, and touch screen has no input to mark the card? Any suggestions?
13. How to get Wireless18 to connect properly with the cingular network

6/. Under connections make sure "carrier Internet" is "ALLOW" instead of "DENY"
7. Reboot your blackberry
8. Check these settings you entered are still there are the reboot.
If this does not solve your problem…
On your Blackberry ….
1. Select Options, from your home screen
2. Select TCP
(Please note the text you type in is case sensitive)
3. For the APN Enter: wap.cingular
4. Username: MOC.SRPGRALUGNIC|PAW#MOC.SRPGRALUGNIC|PAW
5. Password: CINGULAR1
6. Save settings
7. Reboot your blackberry
8. Check these settings you entered are still there are the reboot.
If the above doesn't work then….
Call Cingular and ask to get "Wireless Internet Express" added to your BlackBerry account, also tell them you need the "wap.cingular Access Point Name" added to your BlackBerry account. There is no extra charge to get this option added to your Cingular BlackBerry plan.
14. How to make Wireless18 work on a Qtek S100 a.k.a. iMate JAM a.k.a. HTC Magician.
To install from the PDA go into Internet and open Internet Explorer. At URL type:
http://www.wireless18.com/wap/W18_V2_1_6.jar
Unmark the run after download option and say Yes to download the file in MyDocuments.
Then close the Internet Explorer at PDA and launch the File Explorer, go into MyDocuments folder and click on the file W18_V2_1_6. A program called MIDLet Manager will open. Answer YES to install. In a few seconds a icon mark as Wireless18 will be shown.
To run the program open run the MIDLet Manager and click on the icon.
That's all.
I try:
- Log to download a course: SUCCESS
- Use the program to fill a card: SUCCESS
- Log to upload my scorecard for the course: SUCCESS
- All the rest of the program: SUCCESS or NOT TESTED (but will work)
There is another way to install which is get the .jar file from Internet in the PC and use ActiveSync to place the file at MyDocuments. Then the procedure is the same.
15. On my Sony Ericsson T6*0 or Z600, I'm get "Network error" or the wheel just keeps spinning on network operations?
1. Make sure GPRS is enabled on your phone.
2. Still doesn't work? Okay when GPRS was created on your phone an APN (access point) will have been entered onto your phone with the GPRS connection details. Each APN on the Sony Ericsson T6*0 phones have an unique identifier known as a CID. The CID can be found by Selecting Connectivity -> Data comm -> Data accounts -> . W18 works best if we connect through CID=1, so if the current APN associated with CID=1 is not a GPRS/Internet APN, simply create a new APN, copy the APN settings from the APN associated with CID=1 and then copy your GPRS/Internet settings to the APN associated with CID=1.
3. Still doesn't work? Well make sure that you default connection is the GPRS one and not a WAP connection. Go to Connectivity -> WAP options -> WAP profiles -> (Your GPRS profile name) and set this as default.
16. On my Nokia 3620, 3650, 3660, 6600, 6620, 7650, N-Gage, Siemens SX-1, or Sendo X, I'm get "Network error" or the wheel just keeps spinning on network operations?
With GPRS on these phone you may need to make sure that access point the phone uses is an Internet access point rather than a WAP access point. You can find these at Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Access points. It is best to contact you operator and ask them for the details to enter here for an internet access point. If you find they are no help please contact us with your country and operator name and we will try to find the details for you..
17. On my Motorola V300, V400, V500, V525, V600, V80, I'm get "Network error" or the wheel just keeps spinning on network operations?
All Java applications on Motorola's V-series phones require a special "Java Session" WebSession for network connectivity. This WebSession is separate from any WAP or GPRS/Internet WebSessions you may already have configured.
To create this new Web Session for used by Java applications
1. Select Menu -> Web Access -> Web Sessions -> [New Entry]
2. Name the new entry "Java Session", set all Service Types to "HTTP", and enter the relevant GPRS APN information for your network operator
If you encounter the message "Browser setup is incomplete" when you are configuring your Java Session, you can safely ignore it. The most important fields to change are Service Types, GPRS APN, User Name, and Password (last three are located at the very bottom of the WebSession setup page).
18. On trying to install Wireless18 on my BlackBerry using the Desktop Manager I'm getting the message "No additional applications designed for your handheld were found" or "The application … cannot be loaded because some required files are not available".
This BlackBerry issue is encountered with Desktop Manager v3.6. The workaround is to instead install Desktop Manager v3.6 Service Pack 2 (not Service Pack 1). Contact your carrier for this download and follow their instructions.
19. On my Pearl - I'm getting the error "No additional applications designed for your device"
Apparently the cd with desktop manager that comes with the blackberry doesn't even have everything you need in order to communicate properly with your blackberry. The only thing it lets you do is see the device and that is it. An additional download is needed that can be found here… http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
20. Each time I try a network operation on my BlackBerry, I get the error "Permission denied".
This means you have answered "Deny this connection" along with "Don't ask this again" checked on the HTTP network permissions popup. To get around "Permission denied" on subsequent uses, you need to re-enable the network permissions popup. The following set of steps is one way we've found to re-enable BlackBerry's network permissions popup. To prevent any accidental data loss, we recommend backing up your application data before proceeding.
1. Start the BlackBerry Desktop Manager
2. Establish a serial or USB connection to your BlackBerry handheld
3. Uninstall the affected application from your handheld:
* Start the Application Loader
* Uncheck the box next to the affected application in the "Handheld Applications Selection" list
* Click Next and then Finish to initiate the uninstall
4. Erase the application's data from your handheld:
* Start the Application Loader
* Click Next twice until you arrive at the screen entitled "Completing the Application Loader Wizard"
* Click on the "Advanced…" button located in the lower right
* Check the "Erase all application data" checkbox and select Next to continue
* Leave the radio button on "Automatically backup the handheld application data…" and select Next to continue
* Click Finish to initiate the unload and reload of handheld application data
5. Reinstall the affected application back onto your handheld:
* Start the Application Loader
* Recheck the box next to the affected application in the "Handheld Applications Selection" list
* Click Next and then Finish to initiate the reinstall
Next time you use the reinstalled application, you should see the network permissions popup as per normal. Just make sure you "Allow this connection".
21. On attempting a network operation over BES and am getting an "IPPP" error with my BlackBerry?
This message indicates that Wireless18 could not successfully connect to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) with Mobile Data Service (MDS). Connections using BES/MDS require BES v3.5 or later for Microsoft Exchange, or BES v2.2 or later for Lotus Domino. Mobile Data Service must be enabled on the BES. If your BES fulfills these requirements, the issue may be that you do not have an appropriate IPPP service book entry synchronized to your handheld. The current list of service book entries can be viewed within Options (Swiss Army Knife icon or Wrench icon). You may need to consult your system administrator for help in synchronizing an appropriate service book entry and/or isolating the connection problem further.
22. On attempting a network operation I get "The application … has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy."
Simply upgrade to the latest versions of wireless18
23. I'm getting a "Bad DNS Address" or "java.lang.NullPointerException" error message on my BlackBerry 7510, what do I do?
Be sure that your BlackBerry has wireless turned on.
24. I'm getting the error "Unable to open connection" on my BlackBerry 7510, what do I do?
There can be a delay of 24 hours (or more) from the time you order Nextel's BlackBerry Email and Web Plan, to the time when full data services work on the handheld. Please try again tomorrow. (Note: this error can occur even if your voice plan, BlackBerry email, and/or Nextel Online are already activated - they're completely separate from the data service Wireless18 requires.)
25. Network Error with Blackberry Storm on Verizon network
